The Command Line

There are only a few commands that you need to know to administer a VPS using Ubuntu or Debian. All commands are typed using Putty or Terminal.

With practice, you will be able to setup a VPS or Dedicated Server in around 20 minutes.  Using these commands you are able to secure, install, harden and optimize a server. Putty - Debian Based VPS

Here is a list of a few commands we will be using in the course. Using the command line is easy, simple type the command, followed by the enter button.

adduser
apt-get
cd
cd ..
chmod
chown
cp
mv
ls
passwd
rm
sudo
usermod
nano

 

You can setup a secure VPS using around 20 commands. Using the command line is easier than trying to navigate your way around some control panel. A control panel is a resource hog, it may make life easier for some people, but it will slow your server down.
